Citizen service in three languages

October 30, 2007

The service portal of the German state of Baden-Württemberg now also speaks English and French. This will make life much easier for foreign residents to get information online and to use administrative services.
The first multilingual content deals with everyday matters such as business licenses, start-ups, higher education, moving and motor vehicles. These services are addressed to foreign companies, investors, employees, pupils and students as well as cross-border commuters. The portal's language offer supports the goal of the EU Services Directive, which was passed to make the cross-border registration of services within the EU much easier.
Help in everyday matters
Baden-Württemberg intends to gradually expand its language offer to include additional topics. Altogether, the portal, which was developed in cooperation with T-Systems, comprises 40 citizen topics. On the portal, citizens can easily access information about more than 600 administrative procedures and numerous forms that they can fill out and submit online. The portal, which includes data from over 9,000 administrative offices, also helps users plan and prepare for real-life visits to authorities.
Additionally, the Baden-Württemberg service portal is an example of excellent cooperation between a federal state and its communities. One hundred eighty communities have already been integrated into the administration portal – and the number is still rising.
