Real-time teamwork

Seamless and effective communication despite great distances: Unified Communication & Collaboration connects government employees of Spain’s largest region, Castile-León.
It is Europe’s largest administrative region in terms of area. In order to offer efficient services for its over 2.5 million residents, Castile-León’s regional government relies on state-of-the-art ICT solutions. This is why it commissioned T-Systems to implement Unified Communication & Collaboration (UCC) based on Microsoft software for an initial 300 government employees. The solution is closely tied to the administration’s needs and has been seamlessly adapted to work processes. Employees received a standardized email system which T-Systems subsequently integrated into the UCC platform. The platform, based on Internet Protocol (IP), links all communication channels on one interface. This means that government employees are optimally supported even while on the road. In addition, they can consult a colleague’s availability status to see if and by which medium he or she can best be reached. UCC enables real-time communication even for hearing- and speech-impaired employees through instant messaging.
Surmounting distances
UCC also helps employees avoid costly trips to meetings: video conferences with geographically remote colleagues can be established with a push of a button. Even documents can be jointly and securely edited over the UCC platform. This accelerates processes, simplifies teamwork and decreases travel expenses. And that is not exactly a negligible factor in a region that is almost three times as large as North Rhine-Westphalia.
