Major deal in South Africa

T-Systems takes over outsourcing service provider arivia.kom and clinches two mega-deals in the nine-figure range.

Starting on 1 January 2010, T-Systems will provide all information and communication technology (ICT) for energy company Eskom and transportation company Transnet. Both companies, which are partly state-owned, have sold the shares in their previous ICT service provider, arivia.kom, to T-Systems. At the same time, they concluded a five-year contract with the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary.

Due to the take-over, some 2,600 employees will now be a part of T-Systems in South Africa. With this deal, Deutsche Telekom’s major customers division has landed among the top three companies in the South African outsourcing market and is the biggest provider of SAP services in the republic situated on the Cape of Good Hope.

Foundation for worldwide growth

“After BP and Philips, this is the third major sales win in quick succession. The new mega contract bears out that we are pursuing exactly the right growth strategy with our international alignment,” says Reinhard Clemens, Member of the Board at Deutsche Telekom and CEO of T-Systems. “Major contracts like this lay the foundations for our business in the coming years and give us the clout we need in the markets that are important for us to offer global corporations attractive services locally.”

With Arivia, T-Systems will receive access to important customers in the South African market, including the airports company (Airports Company SA), the state-owned IT agency SITA and the Ministry of Water and Environmental Affairs.
